MURALS

The Guardian. 2014. Ink, chalk pastel, graphite, charcoal on brown paper. 8’ 3” x 9’ 5”.

I initially began my education in sciences as I was naturally gifted in this subject. However, I always had a passion and desire to create art. Despite my parents’ disapproval, I chose and fought for art. This was definitely the best decision in my life. I couldn’t be happier.

The Winged Prophet. 2019. Charcoal on paper. 5’ 11” x 6’ 8”.

King of Panthera. 2014. Acrylic, chalk pastel, and charcoal on paper. 13’ 4” x 9’ 8”.

Beauty and Decay. 2013. Charcoal on Wall at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. 7’ x 7’.

Fiona Tang is most recognized by her large mural drawings that instantly grasp a viewer’s attention. The sheer size of her animal drawings are striking and can create an overwhelming sensation. The animals are drawn on 2-dimensional surface but appear to jump out of the surface. This technique is called trompe l’oeil, a French term that directly translates into ‘deceives the eye’. It is where a visual illusion is created through depicting light and shadow on a flat surface to appear 3D.

Shark vs Humpback Whale. 2014. Acrylic, chalk pastel, charcoal, graphite, ink, self-levelling gel on paper. 10’ x 15’.

Two-tailed Guardian (two-tailed wolf, fire element). 2019. Charcoal on paper. 7’ x 9’.

Fiona Tang’s art pushes into reality. She makes art that jumps off the wall. They are so immersive it looks like she’s standing inside some of them!
